Hey guys I am Rishav Mandal. I have been lucky enough  to secure AIR-58 this time around in UPSC CSE 2018. I have done my B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and passed out in year 2016. I chose POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS as my optional. Thereafter i started my UPSC journey with lots of enthusiasm.I gave my first attempt in 2017 and could not clear prelims. This was a setback for me but i kept on moving. This journey being a long one requires lots of patience and wisdom to accept the uncertainties of this exam.It is also very necessary to develop a critical attitude towards oneself so that one is able to recognize where is one lagging behind.
The best guide to you can be none other than yourself. It is a prerequisite to have faith on yourself to break the myths created by people about this examination. Rely more on facts and less on hue and cry created about this exam. In this context i always say that this exam is more about attitude and less about aptitude. At the same time it is also important to develop tough skin to certain outside elements and protect yourself from negative energy because the pressure of exam is already humongous to handle and a psychological involvement with this examination is required to flush out negativity from yourself.
Since this is an examination conducted for recruiting future bureaucrats the design of the syllabus and examination process is such that the candidate is required to have a basic idea of everything going around and that requires clarity in basic concepts. Once an aspirant is done with the basic concepts the focus should move on to the building of ideas and evolution of thought process. Here arises the importance of newspaper that enables one to do so by gradually understanding various view points. This proccess should be an integrated and continuous one. The cycle should be ingrained into your mind and whatever you read must go through that process. A level of preparation is achieved when the boundaries of subjects are breached and one is able to integrate and link various topics and issues and is able to see those in a holistic manner that exists in the real world.
I will share my strategy for optional and GS as well very soon. Lots of people have asked me to upload my short notes for optional. I will do that very soon along with the tips for how to make short notes for end minute revision.

  2. The partition of India, Pakistan, was not a good event. On one hand, where India was getting independence, that too after the slavery of 200 years, there were fragments of the same India which had been in existence for centuries as a monolithic country for centuries. It was going on in the form of jute, after watching this movie, you will understand what exactly that person was because of which India Pakistan was partitioned !!!

I was getting lots of emails to share my short notes for political science and international relations. This post is to cater to the needs of such aspirants. The basic idea of short notes is to jot down a topic in a single A4 sheet. It enables one to revise the syllabus in hardly a week. It also acts as end moment revision notes to remember the main points that can be used in the answer to fetch good marks. The things that should be noted down in short notes are: 1) Statements and quotes of scholars 2) Name of scholars along with their important works(books or essays) 3) Key features in one line 4) Important critics along with the view points of the critique. 5) Comparison if applicable. Anything that can be written directly in the answer should be noted down. I will try to upload my complete notes as soon a possible. 1) Western political thought- https://drive.google.com/file/d/11cIBr20dVrCeNTR1WUZ51Nzv0PcGW_HK/view?usp=sharing 2) Indian political thought - htt
